the art of kandu
artisan-driven • locally made • socially rooted
Kandu (derived from “Can Do”) is a homegrown initiative by Matr Boomie, focused on harnessing the power of dignity, creativity, and community. In Austin, TX, we partner with women transitioning from homelessness, incarceration, trafficking, or displacement to build their future — one handcrafted product at a time.
The Purpose Behind The process
The program focuses on building trust, fostering community, and creating pathways to stability. Beyond employment, Kandu provides a safe, supportive workplace where women can heal, learn, and thrive. Each Kandu product is thoughtfully made in Austin, reflecting both craftsmanship and compassion. Through this work, women gain practical skills, financial stability, and renewed self-worth.
A Partnership That Transforms
A core focus of Kandu is creating a workplace founded on empathy and consistency. Many participants join the program after facing systemic barriers or isolation, so building trust is an essential first step. Over time, these efforts have led to powerful success stories: artisans securing safe housing, reliable transportation, and renewed independence. Through these milestones, Kandu demonstrates that dignified work and human connection can be transformative forces for change.
Every Kandu product reflects the program’s dual purpose: to create clean, high-quality goods while making a positive local impact. The products stand as symbols of resilience and empowerment—proof that beauty can emerge from new beginnings.
