The art of appliqué was developed to add the magic of design inspired by flora and fauna to household items and clothing. In this intricate art form, fabric is first cut into the desired shape using a chisel and hammer, then artisans trace the base fabric for where the pattern will be placed and then hand appliqué the pattern with small stitches. The women who make these products live in the hot, rural region near the Pakistan border and rely on the skill passed down through generations for income.
Our partner organization that employs these women focuses on women’s rights and economic upliftment by working with almost 300 women throughout 20 villages. Beyond employment and empowerment, they focus on health, social and environmental sustainability.
